Private Medical Insurance
Medical Insurance From Private Insurance AgenciesThe private medical insurance is a form of insurance that pays for a person's medical cost that may have been incurred due to illness or some accident. Nowadays with hospital charges skyrocketing with every passing day, a proper health insurance has become an absolute necessity, rather than a privilege that a selected few in the society enjoy. Medical insurances can be provided by private health insurance companies or by some of the government affiliated agencies. Most of the firms hire private health insurance companies to provide group cover to its employees so that their hospital charges can be refurbished by the insurance firms. These days there are a plethora of health insurances to choose from and some of the firms even offer custom made health insurance scheme that suits every pocket. Basically a health insurance works by calculating or rather forecasting the medical expenses of a particular individual and then the firm chalks out monthly or annual premium schemes. Unlike the employer sponsored medical insurances offered to the employees where the monthly premiums and co payments are relatively low and everyone has to pay almost the same amount of money to the insurance agency, in private health insurance the stakes are steeper. For example in most states the applicant has to go through a thorough medical check up, and the premiums are decided upon by the age, sex, weight, smoking status, eating habits, and a total list of pre existing conditions. Most of the private medical insurances do not cover any pre existing medical conditions that the insured person may have. In case the health of the applicant does not look good to the underwriter, the premiums may become too steep or the health cover might also end up excluding the very ailment that the person needs cover for. On the other hand in some of the states there is a law which implies every person has to pay the same amount of premium for their policies. Although this sounds great but the premiums cost around $1000 for every person including perfectly healthy young adults with no pre existing conditions. In case you want to keep your premiums low, try to increase your deductible a little more but do not overdo since that might land you in a big financial crunch. A little search over the Internet is advisable before you make the final decision, and most importantly make sure that you have read the fine print carefully before signing on the papers. The best policy is to hire an insurance broker who will find you the policy that will suit your requirements and provide you maximum coverage from the hospital expenses. Buying a health insurance and paying the costly premiums may not seem to be a very good idea at the moment, but considering the long term gains associated this is most definitely the right thing to do. |
